Ethan Hawke was spotted meeting a future version of himself in the meatpacking district of New York City. Future Ethan Hawke, who has travelled back in time seven years, asks present Hawke to stop losing parts to Josh Brolin. He also reassures him that it's okay to do a big studio picture every now and then. Before returning back to 2015, Future Ethan Hawke tells him that our work would one day be appreciated, especially their literary efforts, then quickly added to seriously think about it the next time an offer to do a cable TV series comes in.

<![CDATA[Hey, if Woody Allen can get away with schtupping...]]> ethan.jpgHey, if Woody Allen can get away with schtupping his adopted daughter and later having one big happy family with her, surely rumored rascal Ethan Hawke can be forgiven for knocking up his (and Uma's) former nanny, right? The Gen X posterboy and girlfriend Ryan Shawhughes announced today that another baby Hawke is on the way, his third (Maya, 9, and Levon, 6, are his kids from his marriage to Uma). For those of you keeping score at home, this makes Hawke the third well-known actor (following David Spade and Matthew McConaughey) to spend the last few months of 2007 completely and totally rubberless. Congrats! [US Magazine]

<![CDATA[Ethan Hawke On The Difficulty Of Loving A More Successful Actress]]> fef91511e87503826c00270c0ec0740c.jpgAs much as we'd like to see our favorite celebrity marriages succeed, the sad truth is that the majority of romantic unions featuring one or more paparazzi-targets will end in crushing disappointment, as the two slowly come to realize that the disparity in their per-picture asking prices has wedged a permanent rift between them. Still, like so many other blatantly obvious yet unspoken Hollywood truths, that fact is never actually addressed. Instead, we get familiar clichés like "irreconcilable differences," and publicist mainstay, "the two remain great friends"—all of which makes the former Mr. Uma Thurman's candidness on the subject at a recently taped episode of Shootout all the more refreshing:

"It's unfair when one person's career is taking off and the other is really suffering," the 36-year-old actor tells AMC's "Shootout" in an interview slated to air Sunday.
"What happens it's not that they're jealous of each other; it's that the person you share your life with isn't in the mood to support," Hawke says. "You want to have a pity party for yourself, but they're off to the Golden Globes and you don't want to go because everyone is going to think you are jealous."

While Hawke will undoubtedly weather some harsh critiques for copping to a stinginess of awards-show spirit, we again must applaud the rare glimpse inside the mind of a deeply insecure—i.e. perfectly normal—movie star. It's not, as it turns out, a matter of being jealous of a more lauded spouse, but rather of being perceived as jealous—a fine, but crucial, distinction. If only more celebrities were this forthcoming with their feelings, perhaps we could avoid further tragedies like the overcompensating smothering of Reese Witherspoon by then-husband Ryan Phillippe at the 2006 Golden Globes.

<![CDATA[More Cannes Controversy: 'Fast Food Nation' Premieres]]> nation-hawke - DefamerAnother contentious film is set to premiere at Cannes tomorrow night, though the religious suppositions challenged in Fast Food Nation—a fictionalized movie starring Ethan Hawke based on the non-fiction best seller—are about America's blind worship of fast food behemoth chains and their conveniently numbered combo menus. And while the industry's deeply vested interests haven't rallied a counterattack to match the scale of that of Da Vinci's devout detractors, as the WSJ reports, they still don't plan on letting Nation premiere without a fight:

[M]ore than a dozen trade groups representing producers of beef, potatoes, milk and snacks, along with restaurant groups, are fighting back with a media campaign to counter what one groups contends is the "indigestible propaganda" [Nation author Eric] Schlosser is spreading. [...]

[McDonald's Corp.] is also funding TCS Daily, an arm of the Washington lobbying and public-relations firm DCI Group, that is making more pointed attacks against Mr. Schlosser and his work. Last week, TCS Daily launched a Web site called Fast Talk Nation that called his theories "rhetoric" and argued that he wants to decriminalize marijuana, based on excerpts from one of his other books, "Reefer Madness," about sex, drugs and cheap labor in the American black market.

While McDonald's and the other patty pushers have a right to defend themselves, we don't think lasering in on Schlosser's support for legalizing weed was the wisest tact, seeing as late night, THC-induced hunger pangs probably account for a sizable slice of their deep-fried sales pie.

<![CDATA[Ethan Hawke Shoots Off An E-Mail Of Salvation]]> hawke.jpgCelebrity Clemency-Seeking Month continues with this report of Ethan Hawke sending an impassioned e-mail to acting Gov. Richard J. Codey of New Jersey to commute the sentence of a friend of his family who shot a police officer boyfriend to death in 1986, allegedly in self-defense:

The 35-year-old actor said in an e-mail Tuesday that his mother knows Melvina McClain, who is serving a 30-year-old sentence for shooting Detective Louis Glenn in a bar in 1986, and that she "believes in her entirely."

Hawke's e-mail described McClain as "a woman important to my family."

McClain, who worked as a city parking violations officer, has claimed that Glenn assaulted and threatened her during their relationship. [...]

In the letter, Hawke asked that McClain's sentence be commuted "so she can live the last years of her life helping her children, her grandchildren and many others learn from her example of redemption."

No response yet from Codey, but once he takes a close look at the compelling body of evidence everything from Hawke's charming, romantic patter of Before Sunrise, to his gripping turn as a rookie cop in over his head in Training Day, we imagine the acting Governor's only choice will be to use his clemency power to right a woman wronged.
