It's after the jump:

Last week there was a death surrounding the property of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Out of respect for the family, Thompson has not released the name of the deceased nor any private details.

Unfortunately this morning inaccurate reports regarding the incident occurred. The death in fact was not pronounced at the Hollywood Roosevelt, it was pronounced away from the hotel, only after the individual was taken away by emergency medical staff in an ambulance.

We can assure guests who have used the pool since the incident that proper procedures were taken, and the pool was drained and cleaned once authorities completed their on-site investigation.

Thompson Hotels hope that journalists will respect the family during this time of loss and suffering, and share our deepest sympathies.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Obviously, we feel badly about the young guy who passed away—but if we read that correctly, his death didn't happen in the pool, and yet they drained it anyway. That to us sounds unlikely—plus it contradicts the coroner's statement. But then, it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility, considering we once found a blonde eyelash in a Pomegranatini at Teddy's, and the gracious staff replaced it immediately, no questions asked.

<![CDATA[Source: 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' Head Writer Not F**king Jimmy Kimmel]]> thumb160x_kimmelgirl.jpgYesterday, we noted a Gawker item suggesting that Molly McNearney, who swiftly ascended the Jimmy Kimmel Live! ranks from lowly Chinese Theater Chewbacca-wrangling assistant to that show's head writer, had been the woman who came between Kimmel and Sarah Silverman. A Defamer tipster who knows McNearny wrote us to say this couldn't be further from the truth:

She is absolutely NOT banging Jimmy Kimmel. She was promoted from assistant to staff writer, and then from staff writer to head writer. Where's the controversy there? That's kinda how it works in this biz.
Also, as a matter of interest, Molly has been with her boyfriend for 3 years, and believe it or not was in Africa ministering to orphans when this story broke (that's not sarcasm, I swear). The truth is that one of Jimmy's BFFs works as a writer on the show, and Molly and another writer tried to let him go. He complained to Jimmy, got his job reinstated, and then sought a little revenge via the interwebs. The sad thing is that this is tearing Molly up.
Sounds like a real viper's nest in there. In fairness, if Jimmy's reinstated BFF wants to weigh in with his own version of events, we'll gladly post that, too. C'mon, Uncle Frank: Let your voice be heard! ]]>

<![CDATA[All The Outrageous Things Damon Wayans Said On 'The View' Today]]>
If only all guests of The View carried on with the candor of a Damon Wayans, whose folksy take on such hot-button topics as Don Imus's return to radio ("When he called them 'nappy-headed hos,' I went, 'Wow. He's right!'"), and the lack of available women possessing the basic, barefoot culinary skills he demands in a partner, energized the typically moribund proceedings.

So much so, in fact, that Barbara Walters—who convincingly feigned shock for the cameras while secretly grinding her jaws in orgiastic pleasure over the ratings that almost certainly trail such controversial pronouncements—pulled the actor aside during the commercial break to offer him a permanent place on the couch, where he can feel free to weigh in on whatever happens to be on his mind, such as "you know, that Wolfman the Bounty Hunter, or why a white woman might make a more subservient lover."

<![CDATA[On Leaving Britney Alone]]>
We thought it was important to present an impassioned counterpoint to the unrelentingly negative coverage of the Britney Spears VMA Situation that goes beyond that anonymous ABCNews.com commenter's "I'd hit it" defense, so please take two minutes to watch the above video decrying the media's inarguable anti-Britney bias. After you're done, we'll leave it entirely up to you whether or not to further explore the YouTube-confessional oeuvre of the Leave Britney Alone Guy to better understand the worldview that informs the clip's production.

<![CDATA[Esai Morales Uses The Power Of MySpace To Clear His Name]]> esai-myspace.jpgAn update to the developments of late last week involving heartthrob actor Esai Morales. As readers may recall, Morales's ex-girlfriend made several ugly accusations in a civil lawsuit, including allegations of rape and of having knowingly infected her with herpes. Today, Morales has struck back, using the preferred method of celebrities wanting to reach out to fans against the counsel of their lawyers: by posting an open letter on his MySpace page. (Warning: Clicking the link will subject you to Morales-sung power ballad "Reason To Live.")

July 23, 2007

To My Fans,

As you may have already heard, I have been put in a very frustrating situation by some hurtful accusations that were leveled against me in a recent lawsuit. But, because of the nature of the litigious society we live in, my very competent legal counsel is advising me not to comment at this time.

Yet, I need to assure you personally that the charges that have been leveled against me are absolutely false and without merit and I am prepared to vigorously defend myself and my reputation.

You know me. You've known me for nearly three decades. And you know in your hearts that these claims are baseless. This is not the way I live my life and I am incapable of committing these kinds of acts.

I am proud of my humanity, my activism and my respect for fellow human beings. I will continue to be optimistic and I will not let a personal attack deter me from the bigger picture.

I am grateful and humbled by your prayers, well wishes and expressions of trust and support at this time and look forward to the day when the truth will prevail.

Peace,

Esai Morales

While the page contains no comments directly addressing the matter, we imagine it won't be long before the torrent of testimonials from MySpace friends telling their "homeboy, E-mo" how they never once doubted his innocence, while expressing their deep gratitude for "the add, especially during this troubling, personal time."

<![CDATA[Thomas Dekker Claims He's The Unfair Victim Of Hollywood Pinkballing]]> d220316ed64fe511d7d0e9a70f6e74ec.jpgLast week, Heroes co-EP Bryan Fuller said in an interview that the character of Zach (actor Thomas Dekker) was supposed to have come out as a gay teen, but that his management, concerned that it might affect his casting as young John Connor in a Terminator TV series, balked at the prospect and pulled him from the show. A Defamer reader forwarded us Dekker's own response to the controversy, posted in a MySpace bulletin. An excerpt:

I would like it to be known by everyone, that I have played a gay character three times before in my career, one when I was twelve (which is on youtube), one when I was fifteen, and another when I was seventeen. I, nor my management have ever had any kind of problem with creating a gay character...What transpired on heroes is something far more complicated than anyone being "afraid" to make Zach homosexual.

Some of Dekker's earlier gay character work is indeed available on YouTube, including this episode of short-lived Darren Star comedy Grosse Pointe, in which he plays a flaming pre-pubescent who wins a date with the show-within-the-show's resident heartthrob (the money shots are at 2:27 and 3:45), and this musical number from 7th Heaven in which he's flipped by soft-shoeing baseball players, all the while bringing to mind a young Sanjaya Malakar. We've reprinted the whole bulletin after the jump, so you can decide for yourself whether you'd like to thank Bryan Fuller or Dekker for the MySpace add.

"The Truth about Heroes"

Hello everyone, this is Thomas. First of all, I would like to thank everyone for all their messages and comments on my page. For those of you interested in my music, I am in the middle of working in the studio on my second album right now, and your support is especially appreciated at this time. For those of you who have sent me messages regarding heroes, and more importantly "the gay controversy", I hope my words of explanation will not fall on deaf ears or hearts. I am truly sorry for what transpired on the series and who it has effected. I have been shown a lot of, to be blunt, hate mail directed at me and my manager for the way the character of Zach played out. I would like it to be known by everyone, that I have played a gay character three times before in my career, one when I was twelve (which is on youtube), one when I was fifteen, and another when I was seventeen. I, nor my management have ever had any kind of problem with creating a gay character. To me acting is about being prepared to play all kinds of roles and it is an honor and a challenge to portray ANYTHING that comes my way. What transpired on heroes is something far more complicated than anyone being "afraid" to make Zach homosexual. The character that I created in the beginning of the show, a process I take very seriously, was based on Zach being an outcast who had a burning love for Claire, a crush that drew him to her and effected every ounce of his self esteem around her. I created the character that way because it was WRITTEN IN THE ORIGINAL SCRIPT that he was in love with Claire. Please do remember, I was never under contract with heroes. I was hired per episode, and was not informed in the beginning of the series, of any planned character arc, because I was told there wasnt one. What ensued later was a combination of miscommunication, confusion, surprise and last minute desicions, not a knee jerk reaction from me or my team. Lastly, I want to make it VERY clear that me leaving Heroes has NOTHING to do with this "gay controversy". You will notice, I filmed five or so more episodes after the situation, and only at that point, months later, did I even begin to audition for Sarah Connor Chronicles. Only then, once I got the part of John, was I not permitted to do any more episodes of Heroes. That's just how television networks work. I write this because I believe it is only fair, that you know what actually happened and how, and not what you are being told in other areas of information. mis-information. I would love at some point in the future to play a gay character, that I was aware was intended to be gay, that I had a chance to know, and a chance to really infuse with the performance that THAT character would deserve. Thank you for your time, your support, and to those that this situation has hurt, I, and everyone affiliated with the series are truly sorry.
Yours,
Thomas Dekker
