Oh that's where you're wrong my friend. Deadline IS great at breaking news quickly and effectively, but a major, major reason they get all the intel they do, is because of Nikki's trademark voice. As little as three years ago, Deadline was a place where you could actually—alongside the news—hear about what monsters some execs were, while others were surprisingly pussycats. It wasn't just the story (castings, sales, etc.), it was the story about the people behind the stories. And it was excellent.
Finke may unfortunately make herself the villain in this debacle, but it's not just her sharp reporting skills that helped turn Deadline into what it is today. It was the opinions on the industry NO ONE else was willing to offer that did that.
