'Aquaman' Nearly Real For One Fleeting Cable News Moment

aquaman-number1s.jpgPage Six has already beaten us to the Ron Burgundy joke in today's item about a CNBC anchor who mistakenly (and hilariously!) reported that Pirates of the Caribbean 2 shattered™ the box office record of fictional blockbuster Aquaman. Say the Sixies:

JUST like Ron Burgundy, the lead character in "Anchorman," it seems CNBC anchor Joe Kernan will say anything that's on the teleprompter. Monday afternoon, while doing a roundup of the weekend's box office, Kernan said: "Disney was the big winner . . . 'Pirates' plunders the box office, making $132 million in its first three days at the box office. The previous three-day record was 'Aquaman' at $120-plus, which beat out the 115 million which was set back by 'Spider-Man' back in May of '02.' "

Because we're the charitable sort, we'll lay the (still hilarious!) blame on the person who wrote the teleprompter copy, who couldn't even accurately report Aquaman's make-believe gross of $116.8 million, much less discern reality from TV promotion fiction, and who probably also believes that Adrian Grenier is a viable movie star.

Also: Jossip professes to have video of the blunder, but we haven't been able to get it to play.
