As we continue to lob posts out into the ether addressed to a readership we realize is by now standing in LAX security lines, waiting to return to the cramped childhood bedrooms where they first conceived their plans to spend the rest of their lives writing largely meaningless notes in screenplay margins, we thought we'd take this opportunity to share a feel-good, Hollywood Thanksgiving moment that is sure to lift the dejected spirits of any of you unfortunate enough to still be with us:
"Spartacus" star Kirk Douglas, who turns 90 next month, joined volunteers on Thanksgiving eve to dish up turkey feasts to thousands of street denizens outside the Los Angeles Mission.Tony Danza, Minnie Driver, Kevin Nealon, Sally Kirkland, Jason Ritter, Judy Tenuta and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa were among those on hand Wednesday to help Douglas and his wife, Anne, deliver holiday cheer to the homeless and the less fortunate.
"I'm in the position of such fortune in my life, and as far as I can see, it's not very many steps away from being homeless," Driver said as she helped dish out food.
Indeed, there but for the grace of God goes any faded, former It Girl callously dumped by Matt Damon on The Oprah Winfrey Show, who could well be one ATM-withdrawal away from joining the down n' out denizens of L.A.'s infamous skid row. A tip of our hats, then, to the many celebrities who donated their time to those less fortunate, including the ever waste-conscious Judy Tenuta, who was seen stuffing her pockets with drumsticks and dumping the leftovers of a mac and cheese casserole into her purse on her way out the door.
