Golden Globes Nominations Announced; Prayers That WGA-Sympathetic Honorees Will Actually Show Up Begin In Earnest

tarantino-gg-g.jpg
Early this morning, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the shadowy kudos-proferring concern that curates Tinseltown's Drunkest Night, enlisted the help of motormouth auteur Quentin Tarantino, indestructible cheerleader Hayden Pannetiere, and frequently shirtless, occasionally fat-suited Van Wilder star Ryan Reynolds in announcing this year's Golden Globes nominations, a list of honorees that will be futilely scoured for clues as to the eventual composition of the Academy Awards shortlist.

Perhaps overcompensating for the fact that their mid-January ceremony may be plagued by picketing WGA members and no-shows by nominees unwilling to help the studios further publicize their product during the writers strike, the HFPA has handed out seven—seven!—nods in its most prestigious Best Motion Picture Drama category, a field we're told was winnowed down from an impossibly long ten after the painful, eleventh-hour cuts of I Know Who Killed Me, The Last Mimzy and The Number 23. By way of accounting, today's big winner is Atonement, which earned seven nominations (including ones for best drama, and for leads James "Mr. Tumnus" McAvoy and Keira "Can We Forget About The Silly Pirate Movie Now?" Knightley), and upcoming Tom Hanks/Julia Roberts Oscarnip project Charlie Wilson's War, which garnered a somewhat less impressive five. Those receiving sympathetic calls from reps outraged that their clients' hard work has been overlooked by the HFPA's tragically myopic buffet-monkeys include director Sean Penn (Into the Wild), industry-leading laugh-producer Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, Superbad and Walk Hard all were snubbed in the Best Comedy or Musical category), and a certain underappreciated superproducer, whose proposal that the drama nominee he memorably shepherded into theaters be listed on all Golden Globes press materials as BRIAN GRAZER PRESENTS AMERICAN GANGSTER was obviously ignored, despite being delivered attached to a gift basket containing $100,000 in cash.

Additional round-ups can be found here, here and here. And our painstakingly reprinted full list of nominees, including the TV categories we're inclined to ignore, follows for your perusing or scrolling pleasure:
